Today we are so excited to share the beautiful wedding of Emily and Mike Bushell who married on Friday 31st May a St Mary’s Church, Overton followed by Oakley Hall in Hampshire. Their photos are by Adrienne Photography.

Tell us about finding the dress

I had googled a few bridal shops to potentially visit and BOW was on the shortlist. A very close friend then advised me to look at the designer; Provonias and it just so happened that BOW represented this designer.  I booked an appointment and it was the most wonderful experience with my mum by my side.  I thought I wanted something fairly simple and sleek, but ended up choosing something completely different.  It was about the ninth dress that I tried on that made mum shed a tear.  It was definitely ‘the one’.

How did you choose your venue

We knew we wanted to marry in our local church and to then throw a big party afterwards. We wanted it to be classy but laid back and finding somewhere with space was the priority. In all honesty, it was so easy to choose Oakley Hall being just up the road from St. Mary’s church. It was a fabulous venue with beautiful grounds and a dream for our photographer and guests.

How did you choose your photographer

To be honest, we took a slight punt! There were so many photographers to choose from but we were drawn to Adrienne Photography because they were fairly local based just outside of Winchester, had a beautiful portfolio and they worked as a couple. We knew it was going to be a big wedding so having two photographers was a real bonus.  It was such a great decision… Adriana and Lucian worked so hard for us from dusk till dawn.  They even brought a further assistant along so Lucian could capture some of the day on video too.

What was your theme?

Beyond the colour scheme, we were pretty clueless as to what we wanted from a theme standpoint.  We decided to work with another local business; the party booth based in Overton to help!  Danielle created a vision and we had complete trust in her recommendations.  She took away all of the stress when it came to decorating the venue and organising all of the little touches that we hadn’t even thought about.

What flowers did you choose?

I lack any level of creativity and really didn’t know what type of bouquets I wanted other than having some soft pinks included.  I am so pleased that by chance I met Claire from La Luna Floral Design and she made the whole process so easy with the end creation being utterly stunning. From the get go, Claire created some lovely mood boards to inspire me and listened carefully to my feedback.  She went on to create the most beautiful bridal bouquet along with flowers for 6 bridesmaids.  They included roses, peonies, spray roses and sweet peas.

Tell us about the cake

The cake got a little hot on the day and became our little leaning tower of cake! It was three separate tiers with chocolate, lemon and carrot.  I didn’t get a look in!

How did you feel on the big day?

I was fairly relaxed in the morning but started to feel the butterfly’s as it got closer to the ceremony.  I held my 9-year-old sons hand as I walked down the aisle with my dad close on the other side. It was beautiful walking towards Mike and catching the eyes of so many loved ones around me.

What was your first dance?

We hired XO party band to entertain our guests and they are well known for their first dance performances.  We chose ‘The Sun is Shining’ by Axwell Ingrosso, a relatively unknown dance track.  XO delivered it perfectly and it was even more special when the confetti cannons went off as the beat changed from slow to fast with our amazing children joining us on the dance floor.  Everyone said how amazing the band were.  I am going to book them for my 40th next year!!!

Top tip(s) for other brides

One benefit to marrying a shorter man is that I wore flat shoes and had the most comfortable feet all day long! It’s an exhausting day and I recommend being comfy!

Highlight of the day

There were so many but the surprise tandem bike that was given to us by Mike’s college friends was high up there.  It was a hilarious end to the speeches and somewhat apt given Mike’s love for sport and our mutual thirst for adventure.  I didn’t even think twice about hopping on and my wonderful mum totted on behind holding the dress.
