This week we are featuring the beautiful Rebecca who married on 17th September 2016 at Clock Barn in Tufton Warren. Her photographer was Darren Wingham and Real People Photography.

About the dress

I went to one other store before my appointment at Brides of Winchester and if I’m honest I had a very disappointing experience because I couldn’t find any dress I liked. I arrived at Brides of Winchester feeling quite disheartened but was made to feel confident and at ease straight away. It was a Chanticleer designer day which was great because I loved their designs.

I had in mind that I wanted a very simple lace dress. I tried a few but they didn’t make me feel like a bride, so I tried a few more with bigger skirts. These were better, but I couldn’t find one that was absolutely perfect.  That’s when Tracey of Chanticleer stepped in and suggested combining elements of my favourite dresses. She sat and quickly sketched my perfect dress. I’d never thought to create my own dress, it was so exciting.

I was nervous the day that I saw my dress for the first time, but it was perfect. It was made of the most beautiful delicate lace, from the Chanticleer Beaufort dress, but with a larger skirt, v-neckline, low back and cap sleeves, based on the style of the Chanticleer Adriana dress. We added a belt of beads and sequins round the waist just to finish things off. It’s perfect.

Who did your hair and makeup and how did you find them?

My makeup was done by the wonderful Teresa Joly who I met at a local wedding fayre. She created the most gorgeous natural makeup and helped me completely disguise the blemish that inevitably appeared a week before the wedding. We had so much fun at my makeup trial that I knew she’d make me feel really at ease on the day.

My hair was done by Michelle at Bridal Hair Hampshire who Teresa recommend to me. Michelle created long relaxed curls for me with sections pinned back and a gorgeous up do for the bridesmaids. She was also a saint putting up with me changing my mind several times!

Why did you choose your venue? Did you have a specific place in mind from an early stage?

We knew that we wanted a barn wedding so looked for barn venues in our local area. Clock Barn was the first that we saw. We fell in love with it instantly. It’s a truly magical place. My favourite part is that there are different spaces to explore, including a cosy room with sofas and a lovely fireplace.

What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?

We got married in mid September so we wanted our wedding to have a nod to Autumn without being too much.  We used yellow and orange as the main colour for our stationery and flowers, and added red berries as a little Autumnal touch. Our florist The Blooming Workshop really helped bring my vision to life with the most gorgeous colourful creations.

We also wanted to create a natural feel to work with the barn venue, so we decorated with little wooden hearts. We also made confetti for the tables by cutting out shapes from the pages of books.

What was the highlight of your day?

The day was so full of joy and laughter; it was honestly the best day of my life. We’ve never had so many of our family and friends together in one place. It was just so much fun!

Top tip(s) for other brides

My number one tip is to take your time and not stress too much over little details. We spent a long time planning our wedding, which meant that the last couple of weeks weren’t stressful or busy. Come the actual day, the things you think you’ll worry about just don’t matter anymore.

I’d also say, if you can afford it, get a wedding video. I wasn’t convinced it was necessary but my dad talked me into it. I’m so glad he did. I am totally in love with our gorgeous highlight reel from Devoted Films; I’ve watched it so many times I think I know it off by heart!

What was the funniest moment of the day

We had a limbo competition in the evening which was hilarious. I got stuck in, by changing into trainers by that point. I still managed to trip over my dress and land on my bum, but gracefully, because everything you do as a bride is graceful right??

What was your first dance?

Our first dance was to Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse.  We were really nervous about it so we spent most of the time laughing and joking together!
