This week we are featuring our gorgeous Kimberley who got married on November 14th 2015, at Romsey Abbey followed by a reception at East Horton Golf Club. Her fabulous photographer was Simon John.

Tell us about your dress

The dress I chose (or that chose me!) was Coco by Chanticleer. I was adamant I only wanted my mum with me for dress choosing, as I knew she would be the most honest and I wanted to keep it as secret as possible. We had been to two shops already before coming into BoW, and the experience was good, but I was getting more and more stressed as I hadn’t really found anything that I liked that didn’t make me feel ugly. Then we walked into BoW and everything changed. We were met by Laura, and immediately felt at ease and at home. She asked what style I was going for…still didn’t really have a clue, but knew I didn’t want a fish tail dress. My mum and I picked up a few dresses for me to try, and Laura picked out her option…a fishtail…just give it a try she said. It was the first one I tried on in the shop. I came out, she put a veil on me (very similar to a veil my grandmother wore for her wedding), and both me and my mum burst into tears immediately. We knew it was the one! And it was a fish tail!! I felt so elegant and beautiful in it. Laura clearly knew exactly what would suit me and how to style it. I then took it off to try on the other dresses I had picked out, which were also stunning, but not as good as Coco. I put it on again to be sure and never wanted to take it off. We weren’t allowed to take pictures of me in the dress, which at first I didn’t like, but it was actually a good thing. It meant that 1) I didn’t have to risk anyone else seeing it 2) by the time my dress fitting came around, I had forgotten what I had looked like in it, so I had the same rush of emotions all over again when I put it on!

How did you choose your venue?

We chose the venue for a number of reasons. The Abbey is where I had all of my carol services at school and really feels homely. That, and it being so stunning made it an easy choice. For the reception venue, although summer weddings are great, I didn’t want the stress of worrying about the weather. So we planned for an autumnal wedding where the weather didn’t matter at all. I liked the idea of a barn, so East Horton was a great choice. It was both practical and really beautiful inside. It did rain on the day, but I didn’t notice, I was too busy having a great time!

What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?

I guess our theme was Autumn. I love the season and the colours, so it was an easy choice. We had orange flowers, decorated the venue with leaves, candles, and paper lanterns in autumnal colours. It looked stunning. As wedding favours, me and my mum made a gingerbread bride and groom for each guest, and as a surprise my mum had a gingerbread house made! It really helped with the winter/autumnal theme and was great fun…if a little stressful making them all.

What was your first dance?

Our first dance was a soul cover of latch by disclosure – a song that both me and my husband really like (rather than a song that only he or I like). I love soul music so the band that we had, made their own arrangement and sang it for us. We also had an Oasis tribute act on before the first dance, where my husband got on stage and sang Wonderwall to me! Neither of us planned for that to happen…

What is your top tip?

Top tip: Go with the flow and live in the moment, not for whats coming in the next 10 minutes. Yes things will go wrong – our wedding car broke down so had to get a lift with the photographer in the back of his 3 door fiat 500!! (Good job I didn’t have a full bodied dress!) but they are things, that in the grand scheme, don’t matter, and no one will notice. Just enjoy the day as it goes by in a flash!’

What was the highlight of your day?

Highlight of the day…too many to chose from. Getting ready, walking down the aisle with my Dad, seeing Stuart for the first time, saying our vows, the moment after, when it was just me and Stuart, seeing all of our family and friends in one place, the celebration in the evening. It was all amazing.
