Today we are featuring the beautiful Pamela who wore Marte by Pronovias with photos by Darren Matthew Wedding Photography (SDM Images).
Tell us about your dress…
My dress was by Pronovias and I found it at Brides of Winchester during my first bridal appointment!
I had done quite a bit of research before my appointments and knew the designers and styles that I liked and looked for shops that carried them but I did not have a specific dress in mind. I had a several friends who had found their dress at Brides of Winchester and highly recommended Laura and the team. I also liked the fact that the shop is local to me and so I knew that popping back for fittings or to ask questions would be easy.
My dress was the second dress I tried on but after trying on about another ten, I knew it was definitely the one.
I had an idea of the shape and style of dress that I wanted but I was told you should try lots of other styles; with the help of Brides of Winchester, I was able to work out what I really liked and disliked about each dress I tried on (that actually becomes quite hard after you have tried on several!) and the perfect dress was dress number two. It had everything I wanted and I loved it! I still tried it on about three times during the appointment before I decided though.
I tried some beautiful dresses on in several styles but I found that I had to focus on what was really ‘me’ and what I felt comfortable in. I took my Mum and my sister with me to the appointment and they helped me not to go too off track what from what I had said I wanted; they also really enjoyed the whole experience and were included by Laura and the team in the store in the whole process.
My veil was my Mum’s veil – it was so special to wear something that was worn at my parents wedding – but shortened from its original length.
Why did you choose your venue? Did you have a specific place in mind from an early stage?
We looked at a number of venues before going to The Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu, the New Forest. We had chosen the New Forest as it is somewhere we love to spend time and a good location for our guests.
We did not want a huge wedding or vast venue but we did want some where that could be exclusive use, provide accommodation over the weekend but still felt special and intimate. Food was also key for us – we are real foodies!
The Montagu felt perfect from the minute we walked in and were met by the lovely Clara who is their fab wedding coordinator. It had such a welcoming feel and the ceremony room was beautiful – our colour scheme for the wedding was pale mint green and the fact the room happened to be that colour sold it for us! The Hotel also has a Michelin star restaurant that would do the catering and beautiful rooms for guests as well as wonderful grounds for photographs. After staying there one weekend we decided it was just want we wanted.
Our theme was really classic country wedding; but we did not want a strict theme.
The colour scheme was pale mint green and our favours were after dinner mints. Our bridesmaids’ dresses and the groomsmens’ ties and pocket squares were all in mint. I was also lucky enough to have some mint green Jimmy Choo heels for the day.
We also had a horseshoe design theme as horses are a big part of my life as well as being a good luck symbol. My Dad made our table centres from our horses’ shoes and symbol featured on our wedding stationery.
What was your first dance?
Our first dance was rumba style and we danced to the acoustic version of Still Into You by Paramour; after being together eight years the lyrics really meant a lot. The song was played by our wedding band The Magic Tones
What is your highlight of the day?
We loved all of it but the best moment for me has to be walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing Andrew waiting for me; I welled up straight away. It was incredible to see all of our family and friends together in one place waiting to see us get married
What is your top tip for other brides?
Do get a wedding planner folder or notebook; it became my bible for ideas, storing important paperwork together as well as keeping notes of what we had and had not done.
Do research, look at magazines and online but do not get forced into thinking you need everything that is advertised; ultimately its about you and your fiance getting married.
Chose your photographer carefully; when the day is over you want brilliant photos you’ll be happy looking at forever.
Thank you so much Pamela for sharing your beautiful wedding day with us.
