Tell us about your dress
My dress was by Stewart Parvin and was made to measure. I always knew I wanted a lace dress and that I didn’t want it to be strapless for the ceremony. I tried on about five dresses and then a Stewart Parvin strapless lace dress in a style I liked in BoW and added a lace topper with short sleeves. I wasn’t sure that the lace was quite the right one for me so I went to Stewart Parvin in London to try the same dress and topper in a different lace. I loved the dress and the flexibility that a strapless dress and topper offered so I returned to BoW and was measured there. I wanted to order my dress from BoW as I loved the staff and the whole BoW bride experience. I just knew it was the right dress for me and I was thrilled with the result. I had so many compliments on the day and many guests were surprised when I appeared in the strapless dress for the evening reception because they hadn’t realised that I had been wearing a topper earlier.
How did you choose your venue?
We knew we wanted a county house wedding, ideally in Winchester. We wanted a venue where we could have exclusive use for a day and a night, as many of our guests would be travelling a considerable distance to the wedding and would want an overnight stay. We looked at several places and fell in love with Lainston’s beautiful grounds, which also offered the chance of an outdoor wedding as well as a lovely barn for the wedding breakfast. The date we chose was also a special one for us as it was five years to the day that we first moved to Winchester and Lainston has a beautiful view over the city.
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
We wanted a classic wedding with a simple colour scheme of ivory and dusky pink. I adore lace so I wanted this to be the principal material in my dress. Lace also featured in the wedding invitations, on the cake and as part of the bouquet. The colour scheme was very soft and the two colours complemented each other well. The bridesmaid and flower girl dresses were from Two Birds and I choose a soft dusky pink tulle. My Maid of Honour and bridesmaid looked beautiful in their dresses. Our two nieces were our flower girls and they loved twirling around in their pretty dresses.
Exclusively Weddings did the wedding flowers and venue decoration and they successfully incorporated our colour scheme and lace theme. We had soft fairy lights in the barn for the wedding breakfast which created a perfect romantic feel.
What was your first dance?
Our first dance was to John Legend’s “All of me”.
What is your top tip?
Start planning early and treasure every minute of the whole experience. Enjoy selecting your dress and personalising it to you at BoW. Enjoy the cake and meal tastings! Enjoy your time with your family and friends on the day, as it will fly by, and you will be left with so many happy memories.
What was the highlight of your day?
There were so many highlights! I loved seeing Mark’s face as I walked down the aisle and I felt so emotional. Mark and I were delighted that we were able to get married outside as there had been a little rain in the morning!
We absolutely loved celebrating with all of our family and friends in one place at such a beautiful venue.
I felt like an absolute princess on the day.
Thank you so much Louise for sharing.
