This week we are featuring the beautiful Keely who married on Thursday 14th April 2016 at Sopley Mill. Lawes Photography was their fabulous photographer.
About the dress
I went to a few shops across London before meeting my mum in Winchester. I felt a bit deflated until I found Brides of Winchester as I knew something was missing. The enthusiasm, professionalism and friendliness really made my experience a positive one. BOW understands that finding ‘the dress’ is a special moment for all brides.
I always thought I would buy a vintage style dress due to my love of anything 1920’s, but I unexpectedly found the big princess dresses suited me best. After trying on a few dresses, I soon knew I loved the Pronovias brand and Hayley and Laura were fantastic in quickly finding my perfect Pronovias – Dagen dress!
Initially I did not want a strapless dress, but Hayley suggested adding a Pronovias jacket; showing off my neck line and giving me the option to remove in the evening, giving another look and more fitting to the party.
Why did you choose your venue? Did you have a specific place in mind from an early stage?
We never intended to get married in the UK but after seeing Sopley Mill, we knew it was the one. It had great potential to put our stamp on the venue, and is in such a beautiful location it suited us perfectly. It has different floors for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and dancing and working in events I knew it would work!
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
I wasn’t your usual girl that knew what the theme or colour scheme should be, so it was quite difficult. The venue was already beautiful so we knew the pressure was off. Once we finally decided on an emerald green colour for the bridesmaids, and the florist helped us to introduce a peach colour, we soon adopted the theme throughout. I spent a lot of time on pinterest and getting help from friends and family to incorporate these colours and completing the finishing touches.
Our love for food & wine was also a big part of the day – we decided to have a sharing menu to get guests together and make it a talking point. We followed this with a fish and chip van in the evening which is our personal favourite and guests loved.
What was the highlight of your day?
Everything was just perfect but I did especially love my husbands speech. He isn’t one to show his feelings in public so it was so nice to hear him say such lovely words in front of all our friends and family.
Top tip(s) for other brides:
- Don’t forget it is your day – you cannot please everyone. Make sure the wedding reflects you as a couple.
- The day goes so fast so enjoy the build up to the wedding as much as the day.
- If you’ve run out of time to make/buy a decoration, don’t panic, no one will notice.
- Make sure you plan a few songs you want to dance to with your partner so you can come back together on the dance floor for those songs.
What was your first dance?
Our first dance was to ‘One Day Like This’ by Elbow. My partner and I don’t have a single “our song”, but when we listened to this we loved the violins and orchestra.
